Full Version: Nintendo Wii Topic
The Center > General > General Gaming
Ma Jr
Not necessarily because there's a lot going on right now, but there doesn't seem to be a ton of replies to single game topics, so I thought we might as well make a central topic for all things Wii... and then either reply, don't reply, bitch about shovelware etc. Just trying the topic out.

Playing:
Punch Out Wii

Future Plays:
Mario Kart Wii (I somehow forgot to finish it)
Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask (VC)

Looking Forward To:
Super Mario Galaxy 2
New Super Mario Bros Wii
Metroid Other M
Wii Sports Resort
Red Steel 2
No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles
Perhaps Dragon Quest X, but that's gonna heavily depend on some things.
Mischief Makers on VC (I can dream lurk.gif )

They released Ogre battle!?! is it the 64 version?
Ma Jr
Nop, just SNES version.

The 64 mirrors the Wii in that it has pitiful third party representation on the VC FROWN.GIF

I want Earthbound FROWN.GIF
Ma Jr
I'm very surprised that didn't come out shortly before or after Brawl. Seemed like an opportune time to cash in on it.
Atamagaokashii
I just bought The Conduit, and while I'm working my way through the campaign, I'm looking forward to multiplayer more than I am about finishing the campaign. I'm trying to work my way all the way through solo and use it as a primer for multi, etc. The story is a little... ID4-ish/MiB etc... with Kevin Sorbo.
Ma Jr
Have beaten the original fighters on Champions Mode of Punch Out. Will start on the TD fighters and all of Donkey Kong's stuff later o.gif

Edit: And now I've done everything in Punch Out Wii.
Ma Jr
Playing Tiger Woods 10 with Wii MotionPlus. I find so far that 1:1 is good with Golf as long as you're on retard mode so you can see where your ball is going to go. lurk.gif

I figure 1:1s gonna be pretty overrated for the most part in future, since everyone wants to have realistic swordfights without realizing that they're not actually very good at real swordfights x)

Nintendo To Implement "Skip" Feature In Future Titles

QUOTE
Nintendo is said to be planning to accommodate hopeless or merely impatient gamers who get stuck in games by making more of its games feature a “skip” feature, whereby difficult segments may be bypassed entirely. The motivation behind it appears to be a desire to embrace casual gamers whose only experience of a “game” may be Wii Fit; previously some concern at the length of certain games and their ability to be completed by players with careers has prompted similar measures elsewhere. Proof, as if any were needed, that Nintendo’s consoles cater almost exclusively to “casuals”? Of course, cheats are nothing new, but usually they are not promoted as an integral feature of the title…

Just when you thought casuals had reached their limit, the rest of the iceberg begins to surface. NONO.GIF
Ma Jr
Old news.

I don't see a problem with making harder or longer games more accessible (and profitable) to casual gamers.

How the hell did you get past the end of the third mission? I died 17 fucking times in one spot and gave up, and haven't touched the game in two weeks. tongue.gif

Seriously?

It's a gigantic slap in the face to both game developers and gamers alike.

First it's casuals bitching about cutscenes being too long, now they're bitching about the game being too long? Back when they started allowing skippable cutscenes, people joked about skippable gameplay segments, and now it's actually here... EEK3.GIF

Awesome shootout? Too hard! SKIP!
Intense chase? Too long! SKIP!
Epic final boss battle? Hey guys Carson Daly is on! SKIP!

Cancer, etc.
Ma Jr
Theoretically, it should mean more money for hardcore franchises that don't want to or can't afford to turn "casual" but don't quite rake in the cash that casual franchises do.

And no one's gonna force you to skip things, which means your experience doesn't suffer any. It's just an option.

It also pretty much cheats without inputting a code. You've done something similar while playing Pokemon because you didn't want to invest the time in it, but I'm sure there's some megahardcore pokefan who would look down on you for not EV training legit.

I'm more worried about the brain cells I'll lose when I listen to retards talking about how they "beat" *insert random game here*. >_o

If you can't beat a given game on the easy mode offered (where applicable) then you probably don't understand a single thing you're seeing in the first place.
Ma Jr
Like that's anything new. lurk.gif

Strategy Guides do not make you good at a game.

Thus why I still have an unfinished save on European Extreme mode or whatever of MGS: Twin Snakes. >.>
webhead
It's pathetic for the people that would use skip, but really who gives a fuck what they do? How does having an easy button decrease the experience for you? I think you're just being a whine bag, honestly. Quit raging. Go outside once in a while. That's pretty bad coming from me. umyeah2.gif
Mera'din
Utilizing a "skip gameplay" button makes it a movie, not a game. >.>
webhead
Yeah, so if you use it, you suck. But really, I don't see how that's going to affect the game for me in any way. Seriously, I really don't.

And neither does skipping, which was the original point and the connection I was making.

I watched all of MGS4 and got what I wanted out of it. I doubt other people watching a game will have much of an effect on you playing it. tongue.gif

Pretty bad because you're an even bigger casual than Ma Jr.

Yeah, because I should hold on to a game that I don't like instead for the...sentimental value? Even 10 bucks is better than having a game sitting around that I don't play. Now you're just being difficult. tongue.gif

But skipping would allow you to get THROUGH the game and thus claim to have beat it (as you know plenty of people would). Even using a strategy guide if you beat the game at least you actually DID something.

This would be like sitting in the backseat of a race car, the car you are in wins, and you claim to be the winner of the race.

A better analogy would have been the use of cheats and/or cheat devices as a comparison. tongue.gif

Also, did you pay $60 for MGS4? If I recall you watched it all on YouTube or something similar. Which is fine. If that's what you want out of the game, that's cool, but I don't see you claiming to have beat or even to have PLAYED the game which will be the end result of implementing something like this.

To me this whole issue boils down to an annoyance factor. I should really just sit back and have fun loling at people who buy $60 games to hit a skip button.

It wouldn't have made much sense to pay for it when I don't have a PS3.

I "beat" Starcraft and Brood War with cheats because I wanted to see the story and not necessarily become awesome enough at strategy to beat the computer. And I did pay for both. lurk.gif

It's the part where you "assault" the Jefferson Memorial and guys just come out of fucking nowhere. I think I'm supposed to destroy all the portals or something.
Atamagaokashii
Use the smaw to get them from long distance if you can. Once you have all the portals shut down, take the time to run around and get all the strike rifle ammo that you can and head outside. Once there you should see the drudge pop out of the water, etc. Use the sandbag cover to make your way back to where you started to collect the ammo/health, and use that point as your defensive position.
Ma Jr
Can't say I'm a huge golf fan (or even a huge golf video game fan, though I did play a lot of Mario Golf and Wii Sports Golf) but I've spent about 2-3 hours per day on Tiger Woods '10. Started off on All-Play Easy mode, but it hitting every Eagle shot or Birdie putt with perfect approaches became less and less satisfying. Started playing on Standard mode with Easy settings. You still get a shot target, but no dotted line tracking your balls flight, and since my Golfer isn't great yet, not every shot goes goes where it's supposed to. It's very satisfying making a good shot now. Frolf physics were kind of wacky, though.
