I was trying to move some files from my laptop onto my external hard drive to free up some space, and being the multitasker I am, I was also trying to organize the folder I was putting them into, renaming files and whatnot. After the transfer finished, I realised I had five files, all named the same thing. I thought I accidently copied a file, because I have a tendancy of doing that, but after I deleted them I noticed the movies I moved were MIA, and that's when I realized that the files I deleted were the movies I moved.
The external hard drive has a recycle bin of its own, and I tried to check it, but it just sent me to my computer's recycle bin. The files are still in there, because when I check the disk cleanup thing, the recycle bin has a bunch of data in it, and I haven't emptied it out yet. I'd really rather not download all those movies again, so if anyone can help, that'd be righteous. try Directory Snoop. It should work as long as you don't try to put any files on that disk between now and running it, and it's a pretty user-friendly program... plus it's free for some amount of time. I've used it successfully to recover pictures from my camera's memory stick.
EDIT: Wait... I just read the part about the files still being in your recycle bin... can't you just click on them and select "Restore"? If they're still in your recycling bin, you should be able to just do that... This post has been edited by gokou: Feb 24 2007, 07:56 PM -------------------- ![]() |

I can't access specific files in my external hard drive's recycle bin. Whenever I try to open it, it opens my computer's recycle bin
If I right click the window in the main folder of the hard drive, I go to properties, and click 'Disk Cleanup" I can see the amount of space being used by the recycle bin in that window, but when I select it and click 'view files' it gives me my laptop's recycle bin The program you linked did do the trick, though. Thanks, Gokou This post has been edited by WantonGroove: Feb 24 2007, 11:21 PM -------------------- ![]() "Look at my life now. Hatred's become a job.
