Without further ado, here are the complete results of the 2012 Center Awards.
Category: Best Male How you define "Best" is up to you, but the bloke must be a bloke.
Winner: Garlic Junior
Spoiler
Out of a total 38 votes cast, Garlic Junior emerged on top. It was by no means a large margin. 17 men were nominated, with Garlic taking top prize with a mere 6 votes, Xylus in second place with 5 votes, Chaoxytal coming in third with 4 votes, webhead and MadJr tied for fourth with 3 votes, and all other nominees sharing 1 or 2 votes each.
Category: Best Female How you define "Best" is up to you, but the chick must be a chick.
Winner:Anelle
Spoiler
To quote one of her voters, Anelle has "got it rocking on" and was praised in votes for her activity, humour and creativity. Out of the 36 votes cast, Anelle took top prize with a whopping 12 total votes, double that of Best Male and only two votes away from most votes overall in one category. Super LucyJin came in second, Betty took third spot, and Lady Jane, nighstar, Slix and Jenny rounded out the nominations.
Category: Best Newbie Anyone who signed up for the first time since April is eligible.
Winner: Downshift
Spoiler
Many voters voiced their belief that Downshift would run away with this prize ("like he won't win this one"), and when all was said and done, this was indeed the largest win margin of the Awards, with 14 votes total drawing with "Funniest Member".
In second place, and earning much praise of his own also, came like2spray, with Jet claiming third prize. Other eligible nominees included Kiro, Fruity, Jenny, Dubble.Beez (Downshift's cousin :P) and Snow. As anticipated, one of our old skool returning members found themselves snuck into this category :P I'm only surprised more didn't.
This was one of the most positive of all the awards, with much praise heaped upon our newest members. Several members were unsure if Downshift would even "count" as a newbie, such has been his integration into our community. Without doubt he carries himself with the air of a v1-er. Every one of our nominees were praised for their contributions and upbeat personalities and, truth be told, if you're a newbie whose name isn't on the list, chances are you've simply fit in so well around here that we've not realised you are a newbie! By and large all the v6 joiners have been a delight (with rare exception) and I hope you all continue to post away.
But for his early sign-up, his massive contributions (#4 top poster and only non-Staff in the 2,000 club), general demeanour, manner, humour and (no-doubt-begrudingly) Mafia skillz, Downshift is a deserved winner
Category: Best Staff Any of our current staff and anyone who was staff in April are eligible.
Winner: webhead
Spoiler
This was a nail-biter, and not simply because I was one of the nominees.
The votes really swung back and forth on this one - at varying points I was well in the lead, then webhead, then Chax made a run at it, and a late surge of Lucy voters emerged. Towards the end, webhead was leading, then I crept up, took top spot by one vote, then it went back and forth with literally every voter, until what seemed like the final vote cast drew us level in the end at closing time. Then an "at the buzzer" vote squeezed in to put webhead finally back on top.
webhead was praised in particular for taking everything in his stride when it comes to running the forum, for his work in relaunching The Center for v6 and his continued contributions to the forum. He is someone who is viewed as our de facto leader most of the time, a role he has inherited from humble beginnings and one he lives and breathes in his actions and his attitude.
Garlic Junior was praised for, as one voter put it, working my way up from "bottom of The Center punching bag pile" ( :P) to becoming a top contributor of topics and generating interest, and for my modship "feeling like it has been in place for years".
Chaoxytal, in third place, was praised above all for his passion and being unafraid to voice true opinions in the face of contention.
Super LucyJin and Emtee, who share fourth place, were noted for their longevity as Staff members and remaining calm voices of reason in any debates / decisions that take place.
Category: Most Improved Has anyone grown on you since the start of v6? Praise them here.
Winner: Mad Jr
Spoiler
Perhaps the closest of calls, this one again came down to the final vote, and then the final vote, and then the final final final vote.
Mad Jr pipped it in the end for his improvements in v6, with Chaoxytal and Garlic Junior coming an extremely close joint second. The theme for all three were their more mellowed demeanour whilst retaining their passion for The Center, post contributions and recognition of the qualities that saw all three be promoted through the staff ranks earlier this year.
Shade and Nick share third spot for this award, being valued members of The Center who are becoming more and more prominent as time goes on.
Category: Quality Poster That poster who puts their all into posts, whether it be through humour, content, best use of smilies, etc
Winner: Garlic Junior
Spoiler
Praised for the length of his posts and constant drumming up of interest with such things as The History Of The Center Awards, Garlic Junior again won out in what was a very varied nomination pool. 29 votes were cast over 17 nominees.
Coming in second was Mad Jr, with Chaoxytal close behind in third place, again recognised for their passion as well as their general humour in the use of smilies and images.
Joint third were gokuu, Lady Jane and Hornet Swarm. Anyone who knows either three will recognise the qualities that earned them their nominations - gokuu's complete seriousness at all times ( :P), Jane's empathic and passioned postings, and Hornet's very meaty essay-esque addresses.
Category: Most Valuable Member A non-Staff member who continues to improve The Center, acts with the conduct of a Staff member, or is in general considered of high value as a member.
Winner: Shade
Spoiler
The non-Staff aspect of this category threw a few people for a loop, as receiving several nominations were four Staff members :P
What cannot be disputed is the incredible Staff-like quality that Shade carries with him as an ambassador of The Center. For a member who is identifiable as much for his contributions to the DBZGTU 'side' of The Center history as much as the 'main' side, he is a member who cares so much not only for where the forum is going, but also it's history. You will be hard pressed to find someone who cares so deeply about past members, the memories and moments they have shared with The Center, and where they are now in their lives.
Equally, it has become evident from his drive to create more with The Center, to bring more new people together, that Shade clearly has a desire to continually improve The Center. He has been recognised as a highly valuable member and one we are all proud to have.
Not too far behind in joint second place sit Ghostfire, oochie and Blackjak. Ghostfire's contributions are recognised by many. Throughout the years he has hosted Tournaments, some of the best discussion topics you will find, and other historically important activities like these very Awards. He continues to bring this passion through many projects in v6, including Zombie Shock and the Movie Tournaments that served to give The Center a pre-Mafia jolt to the system.
Blackjak and oochie's contributions are of a more subtle nature. Neither are the largest creators of topics (9 between the pair for v6), however both are staples of Center life that are so well-loved you would be hard-pressed to find a member with a bad word to say about either. Expect perhaps in the game of Mafia, where both members shine :P although they are not the loudest of posters, it is hard to imagine a forum without them around, and for that they are valuable to us all.
In joint third place are Eizan Tayama, gokuu and Anelle. Eizan's tournaments are legendary, as is his general contribution to the worlds of gaming and sports. gokuu is a constant source of amusement to most, and at times he breaks character to offer great insight and intelligence. Anelle, as has already been proven, is a much much loved member of The Center whose madcap postings and doodles are a joy to behold. All three are wonderful members!
Category: Most Underappreciated Any member, Staff or non-Staff, whose contributions you feel go unnoticed - give them their dues here.
Winner: Garlic Junior
Spoiler
Wow. Having won Best Male, Quality Poster, been promoted to Modship, coming within spitting distance of Best Staff, Most Improved and being nominated for the non-Staff specific Most Valuable Member award, I sure do already feel very appreciated. I love this forum, this community, these members and everything about The Center really. Our continued existence is good enough for me, but I feel deeply honoured to have won this title specifically. Thank you those that voted for me.
Yet again this was a very varied category. 14 members were in consideration, with only one vote seperating each tier. In first place was Garlic Junior. Joint second came Shade and Ghostfire for contributions to the continued improvement of The Center, as detailed above, and all they have contributed in the past.
Nick and Blackjak arrived in third place, and to give eveyone their moment, in joint fourth came Kinmotsu, Mad Jr, Emtee, Eizan Tayama, gokuu, Musou, Super LucyJin, webhead and Chaoxytal.
Category: Most Respected The member who no-one ever has a bad word to say about.
Winner: Kinmotsu
Spoiler
In what is essentially a combination of the old 'Most Mature', 'Most Respected' and 'Most Intelligent' awards, this could very well be renamed The Kinmotsu Award, as once again Kin comes out on top. Respected as a member and respected as staff, for the past decadeKinmotsu has been seen as a man whose opinion is listened to and taken on board. This will never change, and rightly so. This award is well earned, and the collective of The Center once again agree. Long may he continue to be held up highly in our regards.
In second place is Super LucyJin, a woman whose rationality and likeability has served her well throughout the years. Many times have situations been diffused or grievances sorted via a respectful PM from Lu or a calm thought posted in a topic.
Coming in third is Emtee, a man who has held the leadership position of Admin for as long as I can remember and who continues to exude respect and admiration without ever demanding it or expecting it. His lack of ego is one of the many things that The Center collective respect about Emtee, with much praise being heaped upon him in his nominations.
Category: Funniest Member The one that always makes you
Winner: gokuu
Spoiler
At 14 votes, gokuu ties with Downshift's "Best Newbie" as most votes received in a single category. No explanation here is needed - 99% of gokuu's posts are some kind of irreverant humour. A bit confusing at first, as soon as you get to know gokuu you'll find yourself laughing every day.
This was by no means a landslide. Chaoxytal, in second place, was at times the vote leader. His well-timed use of images and smilies was singled out as lending hilarity to a lot of his posts.
Although the vast majority of voters found the core of Center humour lies in gokuu and Chaoxytal, a few more members were deemed funny enough to wrench a couple of votes away :P Shade and Garlic Junior shared third place, whilst Ghostfire and Mad Jr shared fourth.
In a forum where humour, especially of the off-beat variety, flows very freely indeed, it is a testament to gokuu's consistency that he stands so high on a mountain of laughs!
Category: Most Creative Be they poet, GFX artist, doodler, carpenter, or other.
Winner: Anelle
Spoiler
Another run away win for our doodle master extraordinaire, 'Nelle was never in any doubt of winning this one. Besting a pool of 12 nominees, Anelle came out on top, a fact that should come as no surprise when you witness the joyful reaction she receives whenever a doodle is posted on The Center. They are a staple of our community.
FarceMajeure and photo masters Deejay and nighstar garnered enough votes each to come in a firm joint second place. You only need glance at the Photography topic to see the amount of passion each of the pair has for photography. Their results are truly an art form. Farce was noted for his general creativity skills, from wood carving to doodling. Also mentioned were his previous contributions and a request to produce more art!!
In joint third sit Musou and Lady Jane. Very talented people, Musou's 3D artwork and Jane's doodles brought much joy and admiration in the Creative Works forum.
Category: Best Screename/Ava/Sig This award goes to whoever you consider to have had the best Screename or Avatar or Signature or combination of all - please specify which you are nominating them for (copies of pics appreciated).
Winner:Anelle's "Dick Witch"
Spoiler
Without doubt one of the funniest, longest events of early v6, Anelle's new persona, avatar and screename generated much laughs and appreciation amongst The Center.
In joint second place, Xylus's screename, ava and banner set were praised for being classic, MadJr's screename and "Speed Racer" setup was loved, and Blackjak's "Dick Roman" banner has found a place in our ass....embled hearts.
Nine other members combined for joint third place, either for their screename, ava/banner set or both - Mialee, Downshift, Kid Romeo, Farce Majeure, Chaoxytal, Kiro, Ghostfire, gokuu, and oochie.
Category: The MIA Award That one member of yesteryear who has yet to sign up to v6 but bloody well should!
Winner: Undead
Spoiler
Well remembered by The Center, Undead has officially slipped from "Forum Ghost" status to MIA. Someone needs to find that dude and drag him back here!!
Amusingly, three current members combined for second place - Truami, Falcon and Sharp, you guys need to stick around and post more please :) you're much loved by the community.
In joint third are Revolver Rossalot, Ryfo, Nemesis, Spawn_Syxx9, Crono454, and Cryptochid. Some controversial members perhaps, but each one a part of The Center.
Category: Most likely to still be posting in 12 years Who here will never leave!
Winner: Chaoxytal
Spoiler
At 13 votes, Chaoxytal was one away from most votes received for one category. His love for The Center is well-known and it is inconceivable to think of anything or anyone that would drag him away for good (except maybe a Mafia blow-up :koffing: ).
In second place, webhead. Seen as the safe-keeper of The Center, we have relied on webhead for years to keep this place going and never let us die. The lifeforce of The Center has now become almost synonymous with web's ongoing membership.
Joint third sit Garlic Junior and MadJr, the two "Juniors" now seen as "Seniors" who are as much an eternal part of the forum as the Nostalgia skin.
Category: Most likely to be famous in 12 years Who will be the first of us to earn $1,000,000, get a TV show, have books written about them and become world-renowned?
Joint Winners: Blackjak, oochie and Ghostfire
Spoiler
In joint first place sit Blackjak, oochie and Ghostfire. Blackjak is considered to be marrying into power and riches like a boss, oochie's suaveness alone will catapult him into fame, and Ghostfire will either be running his own business one day or crack the horror scene in some fashion.
Joint second place sit the "infamous" group of Chaoxytal, Hornet Swarm, gokuu and Kid Romeo. I'll leave it up to you to imagine how either will become "infamous" - I just hope they don't get arrested along the way, and if they do, they don't mention us in court :lurk: :P
Joint third sit the "creative" Lady Jane, Farce Majeure and Shade. Also in third place was the very cynical vote of "nobody" :nono: not very positive there!!
Just remember guys, whoever gets rich first..... share the wealth :|
Category: Favourite Forum Your favourite place to post in The Center.
Winner: Video Games
Spoiler
Video Games was voted your favourite forum, and it's not hard to see why. Video Games are as much a part of our identity now as Anime & Manga once was.
Hot on it's tail came Sports in second place. Although one of the smallest forums in terms of topics, it generates a lot of responses as The Center sports fans are a passionate bunch.
Not far behind was Tournaments & Games in third. This behemoth is home to the Mafia games as well as the various tournaments that have ran in v6. Clocking in at an insane 12,000 posts and growing, the creation of two Directories were recently made to help members navigate it's overflowing waters.
Finally, in joint fourth position, sit General Insanity and, making it's swansong, Entertainment. Entertainment had recently grown to such an active state that it was split into 3 seperate forums to keep things coherent and focussed, a testament to how much activity has been generated in v6. General Insanity is a beloved place where we can all let loose and post anything - spam topics, drunk posts, shout-outs, throw-downs and trolls.
Category: Favourite Topic Your favourite topic of the past 9 months. (Mafia games not eligible).
Tied Five Winners: Post Whatever Amused You On The Net Today, Spammiest Spam Topic Evar Created v2, Today In The Chat 2012, Official 2012 MLB Offseason Thread, Recent Women's Rights Political Issues
Spoiler
Being such a subjective choice, the votes were very split in this category. Tying top place were Post Whatever Amused You On The Net Today a topic this has generated much laughs since its creation in April, so much so it spawned an Outer Heaven version also. Spammiest Spam Topic Evar Created v2 was one of the first 30 topics created when v6 launched and set the lofty (but reachable) goal of getting to 10,000 replies. It is currently at 1,542 and counting. Along the way there has been many laughs, some great conversations, a lot of miscounts and plenty of gokuu's trolling. Today In The Chat 2012 is another goldmine of humour, chronicling the best the irc Chatroom has to offer. Many memes have been spawned here, sayings beaten to death, lols had and feels felt. All members should have a read of it and then check out the chatroom from time to time  Official 2012 MLB Offseason Thread makes a somewhat surprising appearance in the top spot. A beacon for all bewildered MLB fans to congregate while we slowly await the start of Spring Training and then the season proper, it is still somewhat of a surprise that it garnered more votes than the 'main' MLB topic :O finally, Recent Women's Rights Political Issues is one of the most controversial topics in all of v6. Created in response to Birth Control, Abortion and Abstinence issues in the law and media, opinions and emotions have ran high throughout it's entire thread, with many members waging battle against each other with words. That being said, it has also bred some great discussion and debate and is in many member's eyes one of the greatest topics to have been created this year.
Category: Favourite Mafia Game or Tournament Pick one (or two (or three))).
Winner: Death Note Mafia
Spoiler
Mafia Game III - Death Note was a game run by Chaoxytal. It was at the time the game with the most players, and has generated the most responses of any game. A wild success, it will be forever remember as a great victory for the Mafia team and in particular "I never said I was innocent" Downstairs. Tensions were high, passion was overflowing, and none of us who played will ever be the same again.
DBZCenter Mafia gathered in 2 more players than Death Note and came extremely close to overtaking in terms of replies. It resulted in a Flawless Mafia victory, wherein the Mafia team (plus myself as a traitor) sat back and laughed as the Innocents killed each other off one by one, pushing and prodding in the right direction as necessary. Frustrating for some, joyous for others, between the theme and the result this will surely stand up in history as one of the greatest games ever played.
Eizan's VGS Tournament began life as a mooted tournament in one of my topics, however thankfully Eizan wished to take up the reins. A massive success, this tournament was the fore-runner to win this award right up until the final few slew of votes pushed the Mafia games into the lead. Battles were fought, lines were drawn, until eventually the Nintendo camps came out on top. A full overview of the VGS tournament is upcoming in the Tournaments Directory. A memorable series, Eizan looks set to try and duplicate its success in the upcoming Video Game Music tournament.
Category: Favourite Post Can you pinpoint one post you always look back on and lol, or nod your head in agreement at? Nominate (and link to) it!
Tie
Spoiler
With almost 45,000 to choose from, it was always going to be difficult for anyone to select one above the rest. In fact, the first 9 voters chose to abstain from voting in this. In the end, 11 posts all got nominated singularly, and so here is their chance to shine, in chronological order:
Without doubt, the passing of Ralph Coers is probably the saddest moment in our history. He was one of our leaders, but more importantly, one of our friends. He helped make us the community we are today and he will always be missed. He will be forever remembered by The Center.
Also in consideration was the exodus of some long-standing members, and on a related note, the general fighting that has occurred over such issues as rule changes and the Outer Heaven creation. In particular, many voters expressed their surprise at the disappearances of Tippman, Koden, Jane, Woofie, Dan and Chelle.
There are always complex reasons behind the exit of long-standing members - several of us have came and went as the years go by. The voters wanted to express how much we miss our friends and hope that they choose to return at some point, and above all else, that each and every one is happy in their lives, wherever it may take them.
Moment Of The Year: v6
Spoiler
In various ways, the simple creation of v6 and our ongoing existence was The Center's top moment of the year. Members noted the joy they had in creating their new accounts, their happiness at receiving an invite to re-join, and the fact we remain active and consistent as we approach 2013.
The return of Mafia was the second top moment of the year, with highlights in the votes including some of the epic endings, in particular Blackjak's victory in Supernatural, Death Note mafia in general, '...' during Center mafia, and the Flawless victory.
Also of mention was the Londish Gathering, the new Staff team, "When Diablo III Was No More", and the Christmas Card exchange.
Above all else, we are all happy just to be here and still posting going into 2013  here's to many more great moments next year!
As one voter put it : "Really, the rebirth and renewal of our faith to each other as a family. We all posted a ton in April like we went back in time 10 years. It felt great to feel young(er) and remind ourselves that we're all still here for a reason. :unkeke:"
In total, 28 members took part, which is an excellent number in my eyes. For comparison, the original 2003 awards part 1 pulled in 22 members, while part 2 had 33 taking part. The average Mafia game pulls in 16 players. The average Tournament pulls in 19 participants. My aim was for around 20 people at best, so that was far surpassed. Thank you everyone that took part
Spoiler
Many categories seemed like dead-certs with the first lot of votes cast, but as time went on the competition really began heating up. I wanted to keep the nomination period open for as long as possible for this very reason - a lot of dark horses came charging into the top 3 of many categories with the final lot of voting. As I said, there was quite a flurry of activity towards the end - the closing time was extended for one member in particular, then when he voted a second voted immediately after to completely change some of the winners, then as voting closed a third member appeared whose votes were allowed in "at the buzzer" as tallying was still ongoing which again changed the complexion of some awards. After the tallies were complete and this post began to take shape, more members came out asking if it was too late, but the line had to be drawn somewhere. :sorry:
A lot of people were worried about leaving a few categories blank. Truth be told, a lot of voters left blank categories, and that's perfectly fine - a lot of categories were thrown in to see what would and wouldn't work for future Awards. One voter in particular stood out for voting in almost every category, most with the full three nominations, and including some really good reasoning too. Broke the smilie filter in the process as well :P on the flip side, a few participants voted in as few as 3 categories, but in the end every vote counts and both sides were much appreciated.
Several voters self-voted :P most led out with "I don't like to self-vote, but...." which was most lol-some. On the other hand, there were a lot of reciprocal votes between pairs or groups of members.
I may post more stat-related stuff once I've recharged my batteries, but for now if you want any specific information on categories you personally were nominated for or anything else stat-related, just ask either in-topic or via PM :) for now, between the tallying of the votes, the formatting of the page and the inumerable hours spent typing up this post, I am utterly beat!
Thanks once again everyone for taking part!!!
Congratulations to all our winners!! Competition for the most part was fierce, but that just goes to show there is much love to be spread around The Center  :)
I've just finished painstakingly moving all the topics from the Entertainment forum into their 3 new homes. Comics & Books, Movies &TV, and Music. We felt that it was better to split out the types of Entertainment to give more focus to each. I moved a couple general Entertainment type threads (Post/Watch/Listen/Read Reviews) to General Discussion but most of the rest of it fit nicely into one of those forums. As such the Entertainment forum is no more and the Entertainment category has grown a bit. If something looks like it got stuck in the wrong place, just report the topic to the mods and someone will move it.
Also I've removed Zombie Shock and dispersed the topics to wherever they were appropriate. It was a nice try but we decided upon this +3 forum -2 forum approach to organize things nicely and Zombie Shock wasn't really getting that much attention.
So...enjoy! I think this setup will work out nicely. :)
I've installed something that automatically makes a topic for birthdays since there is no longer a box on the portal to do it. You will also notice in forum view there is a box on the side (this is why I made a topic about how to get rid of the box on the side) where you can see who the current birthday is. Enjoy the mod...I felt kind of bad that we kept missing birthdays.
At the same time, I'm taking suggestions for a less formal looking opening on it since a lot of you (READ: Anelle) said it looked kind of dumb. :P
